How to
Setup Windows XP Dial-Up Networking For Internet Chicago
These instructions provide
a step-by-step guide to help you get set up in Windows XP (Professional,
Server, or Advanced Server editions) to connect to Internet Chicago.
This also shows you how to connect for the first time and disconnect
when you're finished to get you started.
Below, we also show
you how to make it easy to connect from your Windows Desktop, and
how to disconnect when you're through using the Internet.
1. Click the Start button; select All Programs, Accessories,
Communications, and then New Connection Wizard..
2. The Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard will
appear. Click the Next button.

3. The Network
Connection Type window will appear. Select Connect to Internet
from the available connection types and click the Next button.

4. The Getting
Ready wizard will appear. Select Set up my connection manually.
Click the Next button.

5. The Internet
Connection window will appear next. Select Connect using
a dial-up modem and click the Next button.

6. The Connection
Name window will appear. In the ISP Name box input Internet
Chicago using your keyboard and click the Next button.

7. The Phone
Number to Dial window will appear. In the phone number box type
in the local Internet Chicago access number. This number
was given to you when you signed up. It is determined by your location
and can be found by clicking here.
Click the Next button.

8. The Internet
Account Information window will appear. In the User name
box enter in your Login ID in the login name, or user ID
box. Make sure you type it in as it appears. In the Password
box enter your Password. Make sure you enter it in as
it appears. (NOTE: Passwords are case sensitive) In the Confirm
password box type in your password again as you typed it in
the Password box above it. Click the Next button.

A check mark should be in the box Add a shortcut to this connection
to my desktop. Click the Finish button. |

Getting Connected:
Double click on the Internet Chicago icon on your desktop.
The Connect Internet Chicago window will appear. The User
name, Password and Phone Number should already be filled in for
you. Click the Dial button.
The Connecting to Internet Chicago window will appear. You will
see the window display the Internet Chicago access number you are
dialing into.

This window will be followed by the Verifying username and password
window.

Once you are connected you should see an icon on your taskbar by
the clock. It will appear as two computer monitors. If you see this
icon you are connected to the Internet. You can now use Internet
Explorer to view the Web or you can configure Outlook Express for
your e-mail.
Disconnecting from
The Internet:
When you're done and
would like to disconnect from Internet Chicago, you can simply right-click
on the Connection Status icon in your System Tray (the area with
the small icons by your clock). When you do that, a menu will pop
up allowing you to disconnect from right there.
